Asian Evening at Hanson Upper School, Bradford. Shown here are young members of the opening act, Nach Da Punjab, a local Punjabi bhangra band, who performed Punjabi 'pop' songs. The Asian Evening was a sponsored programme of events, organised by a group of Asian Sixth Form Hanson Upper School girls who wished to expand their skills into organising a worthwhile cultural function as part of their CPVE School course, following their successful venture in making and selling Asian food to staff and fellow pupils; the object was to sell as many tickets as they could, and particularly attract parents of Asian children, in the hope that they felt the school welcomed them equally, and such people who had no real experience of Asian culture. Food was freely donated by Sheikh's Restaurant, Westgate and the publicity, also free of charge, was done by Orient Press, Canal Road.
