Children outside George Popplewell's Store (which sells alcohol) In 'Eastbrook Centenary Souvenir' in a chapter about the Brotherhood ... "Another striking feature of the Mission's activities was the Temperance Crusade which was soon on foot, worthily following up the work of Reverend J Wilson ... such activity naturally arouses the hostility and fears of those engaged in the liquor trade. That it was successful is shown in the following testimony: "at the Men's Society Class ... it was announced that a local publican had appealed to the Guardians for a reduction in his assessment on the plea that 'the Eastbrook Brotherhood had robbed him of his customers'" (Bradford Methodist, August 1905 p174)" also see 79 and 95 (best one). Eastbrook Sunday School had a Temperance Society, members would pledge not to drink.
