Children Playing
Children play on the street corner. This picture appears in 'The Making of a Mission' by The Bradford Wesleyan Mission, pub March 1911, pg32, no caption. Chapter on 'Into The Highways and the Byways' - Eastbrook, "Every Sunday at 5.45 and every Thursday at 8.00 meetings have been held in the side streets and courts of the city. The illustration (negative88) of George Court, where some of our most successful meeting have been held, gives a good example of the scenes of our labours ... As the Gospel Chariot enters the Court, interest is aroused, and the children gather around us. We take a good supply of hymn sheets, and invariably as we commence to sing the people living downstairs open their doors - those whom the solitary room upstairs represents home open their windows - and the gospel is preached in song and address to some scores of people. After the service, a handshake with those who remain standing at the door give an opportunity to pass on the word or a smile of cheer to those who need our aid, and to show that the collar and bonnet are not barriers, but signs of goodwill."
