Portrait of Calvin Robertshaw by John Sowden, December 1909.

Note in Sowden's notebook:

Calvin Robertshaw

Mr Robertshaw was the son of Mr Jeremiah Robertshaw and was born in 1831 at Allerton. There were five brothers and he and Mr Luther Robertshaw were twins. The greatest part of Mr Calvin Robertshaw’s life was spent in the extensive manufacturing business in Bradford’s staple trade at the mills of J. R. Robertshaw and Sons. The family of the Robertshaw’s has always been one of the best known in Allerton. Mr Robertshaw took a prominent part in the local government and also in the social movement of the neighbourhood and contributed generously to the Allerton Congressional Chapel. There has been no more familiar figure in liberal politics in Bradford during 50 or 60 years. As twins Mr Robertshaw and his brother Mr Luther so closely resembled one another that facetious friends have asserted the two brothers became a mixed quantity even themselves. Mr Robertshaw was an ardent member of the Bradford Cricket and Athletic Football Club long before it's establishment at Park Avenue. Mr Robertshaw was presented with a portrait and a life membership of the Liberal Club on his 88th birthday. Mr Robertshaw was married in 1856 to Miss Martha Rawson and has [?] five sons and two daughters.
