'Well known in the Manningham district as `Tom Bott'. He was a very quiet policeman who generally persuaded troublesome individuals to go home. His usual speech was `If tha doesn't go home to the wife and bairns a sal hev to run tha in'. He was usually very successful and it is said he never had a case for over 30 years.'
