Sowden's note in notebooks -
'Was born at Bilston, Staffordshire in 1863 and was educated at Clarendon Academy, Bradford. He studied Chemistry and Dentistry and obtained his Diploma as Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1885, and afterwards became senior partner in a firm of Dental Surgeons in Bradford. He has contributed articles to the Daily Record, British Journal of Dental Science, The Dental Weekly and other papers. He holds honorary distinctions from many American Universities. He has held offices as Dental Surgeon to the Bradford Children's Hospital, Bradford (Nutter) Boys' Orphanage, Bradford Tradesmen's Homes and other philanthropic institutions in Bradford. Mr Forshaw is known as a biographer and poet and has written over one thousand biographies of poets and poetasters. Fifty publications have been issued from his pen, amongst them `The Holroyd Collection of Yorkshire Ballads', `The Leading Poets of Yorkshire', Masonic Musings and Masonic Poems etc. A large number of his songs have been set to music. He was appointed `The King's Messenger' in the Coronation Year, having been entrusted with a gracious message to deliver to His Majesty's Subjects on the Island of St. Kilda. In connection with the mission H.R.H. the Princess of Wales specially invited Dr Forshaw to dedicate to her his forthcoming history of St. Kilda which he is writing at the request of H.R.H. He has been the President of the Yorkshire Literary Society and for many years was the editor of `Yorkshire Notes and Queries'. He is a Freeman of the City of London. Dr Forshaw has been twice married and has had five children. He died in 1917.'
