Sowden's note in notebooks -
'Began his business career at Rheims in France, at the works of Messrs Isaac Holden & Sons, and afterwards came to their Bradford place, Alston Works, where he had charge of the carding room. In 1872 he left Alston Woks to join the firm of Messrs Holden, Burnley & Co as managing partner, a position which he continued to fill up to the time of his death. Mr Fawell was too busy a man to seek election on any governing bodies of the town, but he was very active in the advocacy of Liberal principles. He was President of the Bradford Agricultural Society and had no small share in its success. He was also President of the Bradford Wool and Noil Association and a Vice-President of the Bradford Festival Choral Society. He was a vigorous speaker in public and a man (of) unusually genial and generous temperament. He died in 1891 and left one son.'
