Watercolour portrait of the Reverend Ceredig Jones MA
From John Sowden's notes:
Was born at Tannery Ciliau Aeron, Cardiganshire and was educated at Carmarthen College and Glasgow University, taking his degree in 1880. His first ministerial settlement was at Maidstone in 1880, and after staying there about four years he came to Bradford in 1885, succeeding the late Reverend John Clarkson(?) at Chapel Lane Chapel which was at time the only Unitarian place of worship in the town. During his ministry in Bradford he was chiefly instrumental in the formation of Broadway Avenue Unitarian Church, West Bowling. For a quarter of a century Mr Jones was a great propagandist and was closely identified with the literary life of the city. Chapel Lane chapel was founded in 1672. He retired in 1909 on account of ill-health, and a number of presentations were made to him by the Congregation and Scholars with whom he was connected.
He married in 1909, the youngest daughter of the late Mr Alfred Lawrence, of Kensington Palace Gardens.Mr Jones died in 1915 at his native place, Tannery Ciliau Aeron, Cardiganshire.
