Sowden's note in notebooks -
'Is the youngest son of the late Sir Jacob Behrens and was born in Bradford in 1854. He was educated at the High School, Bradford, the Bradford Grammar School and New College, Oxford. Mr Behrens is a partner in the firm of Sir Jacob Behrens & Sons, Bradford and Manchester. He was Chairman of the House Committee of the Bradford Royal Infirmary from 1900 to 1908. He is a member of the Council of the University of Leeds and since 1908 Chairman of the Committee of Economics and Commerce. Mr Behrens has been Chairman of the Bfd Subscription Concerts since 1907, and since 1912 the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Bradford Grammar School.'
