Watercolour portrait of the Reverend Kerr C Anderson D D Pastor of Horton Lane Chapel. Born Jan 13th 1844 at Jedburgh N B, Educated Yale College Connecticut, left college in 1875. Held Pastorates at Fairhaven, Vermont, Millwaukie Oshkosh and Troy New York. Came to Bradford 1885.

from John Sowden's notebooks:

"Was born in 1848 at Jedburgh in Roxburghshire and was educated at the Grammar School there. Whilst studying at Edinburgh he visited his brother the Reverend George Anderson, in America and the result was that he decided to continue his studies in America, where after a term he graduated in Arts at Middleburg College, Vermont and afterwards went to Yale to study Theology. At the conclusion of his studies at Yale he was elected member of the First Congressional Church at _________, Wisconsin where he remained for eight years. Afterwards he removed to Troy, New York.
The trustees of the Presbyterian College, New York conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Divinity. He removed to England on account of his wife's health and came to be pastor of Horton Lane Congregational Chapel, Bradford in 1885.

The church consisted of about 500 members and a sum of nearly £1700 was annually raised for religious purposes. There were two Sunday Schools with 45 males and female teachers and an average attendance of about 300 scholars."
