Sowden's notes in notebook -
Mr Horner was born at Pateley Bridge in 1826. He came to Bradford with his widowed mother in 1835 and assisted his uncle who sold fruit at a stall near Cuckoo Bridge, Hall Ings, & ever since retailed fruit in the streets. He catered for the fruit for the banquet at the Technical College on the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales. He was a good platform and stump orator on temperance and was a teetotaller for over 29 years. He had a large and influential clientele in the city.
