from John Sowden's notebooks:
"Mr Hyne was born at Bedford in 1830 and was educated at Bedford Grammar School and Claire College, Cambridge.
He was ordained in 1835 and took his Master of Arts degree and became a priest in 1856. He married Miss Frances Wooten of Bedford, had two sons and one daughter. Mr Cutliffe Hyne, the novelist, is one of the sons. He was incumbent at Bierley for forty four years and retired on account of failing health. Apart from the parochial work Mr Hyne has been associated with many institutions in the city, including the Charity Organisation Society, the Blind Institution, the Bradford branch of the RSPCA, and the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society. He died in 1912 shortly after his retirement."
