Biographical notes in Sowden's notebook:

Mr Williams was born at Cowbridge, Glamorganshire in 1860 & was educated at the British Schools & the Grammar School at Cardiff. In 1877 he became a student at Carmarthen College, the principal being Dr. Vance Smith, one of the New Testament services. There he won a Dr. Williams' Scholarship, of the value of £50 for two years. At 20 years of age, he was ordained to the ministry by the Rev. Professor Morgan. He commenced preaching when he was 13 year old. His first pastorate was that of a Welsh Church at Dowlais. Here he stayed 4 years & left to go to Neath in Glamorganshire where he became pastor of an English Congregational Church. Mr Williams was then invited to come to Bradford and he came in 1888. Mr Williams in an impressive speaker. Mr Williams accepted an invitation to Brighton in 1909 where he succeeded to the pulpit formerly occupied by the Revd. R. J. Campbell of the City Temple.
