Thomas Arnaud Guy
Mr T. A. Guy was the son of the late Mr Wm. Guy of Chapel-le-Dale in Ingleton Fells. He was head of the form of Wm Guy & Sons, wool merchants. Mr Guy was a zealous member of the Board of Guardians and was Chairman and one of the principal ? in dealing with outdoor relief which has since been elaborated under his successor Mr F. H. Bentham. He was elected to the City Council in 1900 by the Lister Hills ward & re-elected in 1903. His election to the deputy-chairmanship of the Fianance Committee in conjunction with his position of Liberal Whip made him one of the most conspicuous & important figures in the Council Chambers. He had almost a life-long connection with the Prisoners’ Aid Society. He was a member of the Board of Management Committee of the Royal Infirmary & a member of the Joint Hospital Committee. He allied himself with the Society of Friends. In his day he was one of the soundest Chess players Bradford produced & was chairman of the Bradford Chess Club. In one of the inter-county matches with Lancashire, Mr Guy had the honour of captaining the Yorkshire Twenty. Mr Guy was a bachelor. He died in 1905.
