Watercolour portriat of Jesse Galloway JP, aged 66

from John Sowden's notebooks:

"Mr Galloway was very well-known among the older generation of Bradfordians.

A wool and noil dealer he succeeded at the age of 26 to one of the oldest businesses in Bradford. In politics he was a Conservative and represented West Bowling Ward in the Town Council from 1882 to 1891, when he was defeated by Mr Sam Shaftoe. During the same period Mr Galloway sat on the Board of Guardians and was vice chairman for two years.

He was also chairman of the Assessment Committee.

Mr Galloway did a considerable amount of building in Bradford and he had a large share in the development of West Bowling. He was a church man and a Conservative. He had only one son who predeceased him. He died in 1905 at Morecambe, where he had retired."
