Biographical note from John Sowden's notebook:

"Mr. Pesel was born in Paris in 1836. He came to England in 1844, & was educated at Huddersfield College, finishing his education at Leipzig, where he attended the Handelschule. He spent 2 and a half years there and in 1853 entered the business of his uncle Mr Fred Seluvan(?) of Huddersfield.
In1850 he came to Bradford & entered the business of his uncle Mr Robert Kell of the firm Messrs Kell & Co, Vicar Lane. In 1895 he started Stock & Share brokering with Mr A.C. Hunt under the firm of Pesel & Hunt.
In 1896 he was appointed a Magistrate for the City.
He was much interested in the work of the Bradford Nurses Institution & was a member if the Committee & often the Chairman from 1872 until 1910. He was on the Committee of the Children's Hospital from its foundation until 1910, when he retired on account of ill-health.
He worked on the Charity Organisation Society Committee and also on the Bradford Library Committee.
He married a daughter of Mr Kitson of Leeds and has issue two daughters."
