Biographical note in Sowden's notebook:
William Parkinson was born at Crosshills, Kildwick in 1847. Educated at Mr R? Pelly's private school in the same village, on leaving school school went to Ramsbottom, East Lancashire Railway station to be telegraph clerk & was soon removed to Bury, in Manchester for a short time & returned to Kildwick Station to assist his father in the coal business. He came to Bfd in 1867 & commenced business as a coal merchant. In 1870 & for many years did the largest tonnage in Bradford of any merchant. He also had a London business for some years & in 1899 amalgamated with the Bradford Coal Merchants & Consumers Association Ltd. He died in 1918.
