Is the second son of Mr John Priestman, a former member of the Corporation. He was educated at the Friends School, Oliver's Mount, Scarborough, after which he entered the Bradford trade with which he is still connected, being Chairman of the firm of Alfred Priestman & Co. Ltd Brick Lane Mills, Bradford.

Prior to becoming connected with the Labour Party he had not taken any active part in public affairs. He was for several years secretary to the Bradford Friends Adult School of which he is now Vice-Chairman. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was formely a member of the Philosophical Society.

Mr Priestman entered the City Council at a bye electing in 1895 for the Manningham Ward. As a member of the council, has usually restricted his activity to working in harmony with the Labour Party. He took great interest in the housing of the people.

Mr Priestman was a member of the following committees Baths and Team Labour, Health, Technical Instructions & Watch, in addition to taking part in the work of the sub committees dealing with accounts, loans & Conditioning House.

Mr Priestman retired from the City Council in 1916 on account of ill health & having served 21 years.

On his retirement a presentation was made & a sundial will be placed in the grounds of Grassington Crematorium when finished, suitably inscribed.
