"Was born in Bradford in 1877 and was educated at Miss Scale’s School from 1883 to 1886 and the Grammar School from 1886 to 1893. He was awarded the Gold Medal Commercial Certificate in 1892 and the Foster History Prize in 1893. In politics are Liberal and was chairman of the Bradford League of Young Liberals for two years, 1911 and 1912, and Lecture(?) Secretary from 1913 to 1914.

He is a member of the Bradford Liberal Association, General Purposes Committee, Western Division Executive of Manningham and Exchange Ward Committee of Bradford Liberal Club, Manningham Liberal Club and 99 Club. He has held office in connection [with] the Boys Brigade since 1903 to 5 and was elected President of the Yorkshire Federation of Boys Organisations in 1914, Bradford Grammar School and Bradford High School Old Boys Association (Committee 1899, Hon Secretary 1900 to 1904).

He was a member of the 2nd Volunteer (PWO) West Yorkshire Regiment, 1900 to 1904 holding the rank of sergeant and was sub comandant, attached under Lord Derby’s scheme and now holds the rank of sergeant in the regiment."
