Biographical note in Sowden's notebook:
Born St. John's Wood, London. Pupil teacher at st Stephen's National School, St John's Wood. Trained for a certificated teacher at the Board of Education at Tottenham Training College. At the expiration of ????? of training was appointed on the College Staff as resident lecturer. In 1884 was appointed by Bradford School Board Head, Headmistress of Belle Vue Girls' School, when known as a Higher Grade School. This School has developed with the times and is now a Sunday Girls' School. Miss Beszant has been President of the local branch of the National Union of Teachers. Is a member of the Sunday Schools Committee of the National Union of Teachers. This Committee meets in London if timely annually to confer on matters affecting Sunday Schools. Is at present a member of the Departmental Committee on Periodical Increases of Salaries in Public Institutions for Higher Education (other than University Institutions). This Committee has been formed at the ?????? of the Minister of Education (Mr ????). ??? Councils of 22 members, five of whom are women. Was recently Hon Sec of the Local Branch of the National Union of Women Workers and held office for four years. Is now a member of the local Committee. Miss Beszant has taken part in various organisations in the City in connection with girls & womens work.
