Watercolour painting by John Sowden of "Cheap John", John Ross, age 77.
Research - known as 'Cheap John' for the cheapness of his wares. He sold brooms and brushes etc around Bradford since 1851. Previously worked as a labourer at a stone quarry until a work accident broke his hip and damaged an eye. He was hospitalised at Bradford Workhouse for two years. He was 77 when painted by Sowden on 26th May 1888.
