Biographical notes in Sowden's notebooks:
Lady Byles was the only daughter of Mr Stephen Unwin of Colchester & was born in 1843. She came to live with her brother Mr S. P. Unwin at Keighley about 1860. She was married in 1865. Lady Byles took a very active part with Sir Wm. P. Byles in politics & particularly in connection with the Bradford Womens' Liberal Association. For 17 years she had been the leader of the Association & only retired in 1903 when Sir W. P. Byles was made M. P. for North Salford where they purposed to love in the future.
