Biographicl note from John Sowden's notebook:
"He was born in Bradford in 1846 and educated at Norwich. On leaving school at 16 years of age he was engaged in the mohair trade and commenced on his own account as mohair merchant, becoming a recognised authority on mohair. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and one of its presidents. He was a prominent member of the Conservative Party in Bradford and was treasurer of the Bradford Conservative Association. He was a school manager and was strongly(?) interested in education. He was a member of the Bradford Sub-Association of Voluntary Schools, also the Bradford representative in the governing body of voluntary schools at Leeds.
He was on the committee of the Bradford Royal Infirmary. He married Jane, daughter of the late Mr John Cordingley of Burnet Field he was appointed a Justice of the Peace. He was a member of the Bradford and County Conservative Club. He died in 1916 in his 70th year."
