Watercolour painting by John Sowden of John Henry Wade, solicitor, J.P. Born at Pudsey 1830. Came to Bradford 1847. Articled to Rawson & George and admitted into partnership, January, 1853. Governor Bradford Grammar School. Director District Bank.
from John Sowden's notebooks:
"Was born in 1830 at Pudsey and was educated at Garforth and the Moravian School at Fulneck. He was articled about 1847 to Mr John Rawson, of the firm Rawson & George, solicitors (Mr Rawson being then Town Clerk of Bradford) and he was admitted as a solicitor in 1852.
Not long afterwards he joined the firm which became known as Rawson, George & Wade. In 1887 the name of the firm was changed to Wade, Bilborough, Booth & Co. Mr Wade had held all the offices in connection with the Bradford Incorporated Law Society and was a governor of the Bradford Grammar School. He was instrumental in promoting the Bradford District Bank and was a director for more than 20 years of that bank as well as of the Bradford Exchange Company of the Northern Counties Investment Trust Ltd and of the Undercliffe Cemetery Company.
Mr Wade was a Liberal and was Secretary to the Liberal Registration Association of the Northern Division of the West Riding, as well as to the Shipley and West Bradford Parliamentary Division. He was a legal advisor and solicitor to the Liberal Party.
In religion Mr Wade was a Congregationalist and held many offices in connection with that body.
He died in 1902, leaving a widow, three sons and three daughters."
