Wm. Alfred Whitehead J.P. A well known and prominent citizen, was Mayor during 1905-6. he entered the Council as a Liberal for the South ward, but after two years services he resigned owing to ? of business. In 1903 he was elected a member of the Council for Exchange Ward. He took great interest in the Technical College and was its Chairman for some time. He is an ex president of the Bradford Chamber of Commerce and a city magistrate. He is chief partner of the firm Messr W & J Whitehead and one of the largest top makers and spinners in the city. He has been connected with the Nutter Orphanage and the Bradford Royal Infirmary. Mr Whitehead is intimately identified with the Baptists of the City and throughout Yorkshire. He was born in 1854 and was educated at Dr Dysons' School in Bradford and at ? College, afterwards proceeding to University College School, London. He married Miss Sykes of Huddersfield and there are four sons of the marriage.
