Whiteley, J Marvel

From John Sowden's notes:

A well-known journalist and probably the oldest one in this part of the County. For nearly 50 years he was actively engaged in Bradford, being 25 years on the staff of the Bradford Observer and subsequently acting for a long period as a representative of the Yorkshire Post. He had also during most of that time been correspondent for several London and provincial papers, the Daily News, The Standard, Manchester Guardian, Manchester Examiner and Manchester Courier. He was also on the press at Halifax and Leeds. He was very active and industrious and of a retiring disposition.
He was born at Halifax in 1816 and died in 1897.
