Watercolour portrait of G A Steinthal age 53, came to Bradford in 1867
from John Sowden's notebooks:
"A native of Frankfurt and was formerly manager of the firm of Steinthal & Company stuff merchants, Bradford; but on the firm’s cessation from business he commenced operations as an electrical engineer. On the formation of the local telephone company he was one of the directors and afterwards became a local director of the National Telephone Company which position he held till his death.
He was an ardent Liberal and Home Ruler. By effort as well as (?) he rendered good service to many organisations, amongst which may be mentioned the Lifeboat Saturday Fund. How many years he was the honorary secretary of the Bradford Club and for a still longer period he acted as mess(?) treasurer and practically as secretary of the 21st West Riding of Yorkshire Volunteer Artillery. He was a bachelor. He died in 1900."
