The image is of a painting by local artist Arthur North depicting the old Talbot Inn situated in Kirkgate, Bradford. One of a series of glass lantern slides showing old halls and other Bradford buildings.
The Talbot Inn on Kirkgate was a well known coaching inn, with extensive gardens, that dated back to the late 17th century. By the 19th century it was the site of the Talbot Hotel and pub. The original 17th century structure was replaced with a Victorian building designed by architects Andrews and Pepper. The pub became the campaign headquarters for the local Tory party members and was the meeting place for those campaigning against workers campaigns, reducing hours and strikes. The building is now used for retail purposes.
