A British size glass lantern slide, part of a series of slides used for educational lectures at the Bradford Scientific Association. A photography slide edged with red buckram tape. The image shows an interior view of Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire, looking down the central aisle and through the entrance of the abbey. The date of the picture is unknown, possibly early 20th century. The abbey was one of England’s wealthiest abbeys and was destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. The abbey was one of the first and most powerful northern Cistercian monasteries.
