This is a black and white photographic print of a miner below ground at Hay Royds Colliery. He is wearing high visibility clothing and a hard hat with miner's headlamp. He is standing with his back bent against the roof of the mine and he is leaning on the pipework of some machinery. This image was taken by photographer Ian Beesley and is featured in his book 'Life: A Retrospective' on page 136 with the caption 'Drilling through solid rock trying to find the coal seam at Hay Royds Colliery' and in 'The Drift' on page 34 as 'Graham Walker, Faceworker, End of Shift'.
