This is a black and white landscape photographic print of two miners at the pit top of Hay Royds Colliery. The pair have an arm wrapped around the other as they look at the camera. Both of them are wearing miners headlamps and shirts, one of them is wearing a pair of glasses. Mining machinery and materials can be seen in the background but they are blurry. This print was taken by photographer Ian Beesley and can be found in his book 'The Drift' on pg110-111. The names of the two miners are listed as Martin Senior and Tom Cook. It is also in Beesleys 'Life: A Retrospective' on p133.
The caption below the print reads: "Some of us have been offered jobs in New Zealand, a company came over and gave us a presentation and interviewed us. Its (sic) a big upheaval. a long way from anywhere, anyway one of the lads, Martin (on the left) he's off in January 2009, he's young, no family."
