This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder in which they are stored reads 'De Puy, Thackray, Beeston, Leeds, 5th August 2011', possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This image depicts a man wearing a DePuy uniform and protective gloves and goggles holding a ball-like component possibly for a hip or knee joint replacement. He is working on it through a magnifying light. There is a tray of more components, some shiny and some dull, to the right of the image on the table in front of him. On the wall on the left of the image is a tool rack which includes a hammer and spanner.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.
