This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder reads ' DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 5th/12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man working at a grinding/sanding machine while wearing a DePuy uniform, ear defenders and glasses. A measuring caliper, a metal container and a few finished pieces rest on the table beside him. A waste bin stands to the other side of him, partially obscured by the machine. Another man is stood in the background, looking at the camera with a small grin.
