This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder reads ' DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 5th/12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man wearing a DePuy uniform and glasses while working at a machine. With one hand he holds an stick of material with a ball joint at the end, with the other he secures it with a tool of some kind. A moving belt polishes or grinds at the material while a chute collects the sparks and material that is shaved off.
