This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder reads ' DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 5th/12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man in a DePuy uniform and glasses working at a machine. His ear defenders are propped up on top of his head instead of covering his ears. He is holding a piece of material with both hands while a machine cuts/grinds away at it. You can see visible sparks from the material being cut away. A number can be seen prominently on the machine (050 006 224), a big emergency stop button can be seen level with his forehead on top of the machine and a passed inspection sticker can also be seen. A table can be faintly seen in the background with multiple finished products and a measuring caliper resting upon it.
