This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder reads ' DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 5th/12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.
This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.
This image depicts a close up of a grinding/cutting machine. A person (wearing a black DePuy uniform) stands behind it holding a piece of metal material with both hands. The material has two sides connected by a groove which the machine has created - it is not clear whether the material is finished (and being pulled away) or is still being worked on. A label with the title 'Important Safety Information' can be seen, but the recommendations are illegible.
