This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. A label on the back of the folder reads ' DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 5th/12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man wearing a DePuy uniform and glasses, with a pair of ear defenders resting on top of his head. He is working at a machine with a piece of material, the process of which is producing sparks. The machine has a label near its base that reads 'Surtech'. A table on wheels stands behind him with a metal container and some other bits resting on top. A waste bin can be seen on the other side of the machine. A woman with a ponytail (possibly wearing a lab coat) can be seen obscured in the background.
