This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley.

A label on the back of the folder reads 'DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

The image shows a man wearing glasses and a DePuy uniform standing and looking out of frame to the right - possibly at someone not visible in this image. The machine has lots of buttons, switches and dials as well as text on a small computer screen, and a light on top. There are eye-protection warning stickers and a label to do with "Climate Care" also on the machine. It is also labelled "FANUC Series O-T" - a computer system designed for controlling machines.
