This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley.

A label on the back of the folder reads 'DePuy, Thackray. Beeston. Leeds. 12th August 2011, possibly referring to the DePuy Sythes R&D centre in Beeston.

This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company who moved production to China.

The image shows a man wearing a DePuy uniform, protective glasses, gloves and earbuds. They are sat at a machine comprised of a large wheel - possibly they have a surface coating the circumference making it a polisher. The employee is working with the machine to polish a piece of metal. In the foreground of the image is a trolley with four more polished metal objects like the one the man is holding. In the background of this portrait image are two more tools like the one the man is using, as well as some other machinery.
