This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts a Quadra-chek 100 machine working. A large circular (save for a rectangular bit at the bottom) paper is fixed to the machine frame. The paper is covered in drawings and a section of it seems cut out or is at least made of a different kind of paper. The interface in the left of the image displays the name of the machine at some coordinates, x -0.6426 and y -1.7036. There are two blurry pieces of paper stuck to the body of the machine. The one in the top left asking users to store away drawings after use, the other on the right asks users to think about saving money and energy.
