This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts two men wearing glasses and black DePuy uniforms working (one of whom is cut off by the edge of the frame) with a Quadra-chek machine, which was used to take precise measurements. A large circular drawn plan has been fitted to the machine frame with four large latches. A notice on the machine frame reads 'Have you SWITCHED OFF. Think! SAVE ENERGY AND MONEY. CLIMATE CARE'. A notice cut off by the top of the frame asks users to file away drawings after use.
