This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man wearing a pair of glasses and a DePuy uniform. He is placing a tray of components inside a VM40III Super Productive Vertical Machining Center while holding out another component from the batch to the camera. His mouth has been caught mid movement, possibly being caught explaining something to Beesley. The control panel for the/a machine can be seen in the background and a magnifying lamp is poking into the frame in the bottom left corner. A sheet pinned to the machine details the people approved to operate the machine and a warning above it talks about the maximum spindle speed.
