This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man working his desk while wearing glasses, ear defenders and the DePuy uniform. He is holding a component in one hand while whittling away at it with a pointed tool in the other. A magnifying lamp assists his work by improving his vision. Finished components, a reference sheet and a measuring caliper can be seen on his table.
