This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image shows a person wearing a striped shirt and wristwatch using a measuring caliper to hold a domed component. With one hand he holds the tool while the other is outstretched ready to catch the piece if it falls. Lots of objects can also be seen on the desk, such as multiple other components (either finished or unfinished), sheets of paper, a pointy tool and a pair of ear defenders. Though not all the text can be read, the label 'Please keep this area clear' is legible.
