This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts a man standing at his work desk using some kind of large measuring tool. There is a large space for placing objects, a dial to show measurements and a long stand that goes out of frame. The man is using this to measure a small component piece. His work desk has other items strewn about, such as ear defenders, a pen, a pair of tongs and sheets of paper. The text '[Please keep] this area clean and tidy' is labeled on the work surface.
