This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image shows a man wearing a black DePuy uniform, eye protection and an ID card on his hip. He is looking down at a control panel presumably for the machine in front of him, which consists of a glass chamber with safety warnings on the glass. A warning suspending from something out of frame mandates that this area is a 'Ear protection zone' and that 'Ear protectors must be worn in this area'. Another piece of paper next to that warning has the text 'Line' with the rest of it cut off by the top of the frame. Perhaps this is referring to a machine line? Or perhaps Hip line, since DePuy Beeston manufactured hip and knee replacements. There is also a piece of paper stuck to the side of the control panel, possibly a sign in sheet or something similar to record operating times and personnel.
