This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image shows a man using a machine while wearing ear protection, glasses and the DePuy uniform. He is using a machine called the Wet Blast Processing Unit. There is a large circular hole (with the other one being obscured by his body) for the operator to place their hands into and a rectangular window to look into the interior of the machine. Ear protection warnings can be seen both on the side of the machine and close to his hand just below the window. A sign stuck to the machine below the hand openings reads 'Important Notice', but the rest of the text is illegible. There is a another worker present as well, possibly supervising or using a machine in the background.
