This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image depicts a man sitting down and using a grinding/sanding machine while wearing glasses, an ID card, gloves and the DePuy uniform. He seems to also be wearing small ear plugs rather than headphone defenders. The camera captures both him and his surroundings, such as the table next to him (which has a bucket, components to work on/have been worked on, a small rectangular box on the upper level and a larger box on the bottom level) and the two machines to the left of him. Interestingly, his is the only machine to not have visible ear or eye protection warnings.
