This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts a man sitting down using a grinding/sanding machine while wearing glasses, ear plugs, gloves, an ID card and the DePuy uniform. The camera pans down from behind his shoulder to focus on his hands. He presses a component against a stick-like object with one hand an holds the stick steady with the other. It is presumably this stick that he uses to press the component against the grinding wheel.
