This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts a row of machines at DePuy Beeston. The ones closest to the camera are labelled as 'Powerfin Bulls', which are heavy duty polishing and grinding machines. They consist of two seperate spinning wheels connected to a central frame with buttons and dials. A worker in the distance can be seen using one while wearing ear defenders and glasses. They also have a wheeled tray next to them to hold objects.
